The History of Dance Dance has no specific beginning point. No certain year, nothing like that. It’s timeless. Dance is a form of expression, of communication, of entertainment. It dates back to before 3300 BC. And in the late 20th century, it evolved tremendously. Hip hop came to be popular during the 80’s, when Clive Campbell came from Jamaica to NY in 1967. He became known as “Kool DJ Herc” and used turntables to create new beats out of old music. Street dancers and breakers came to know and love his music, and used it in both their freestyle and choreographed dances. Today, there are countless forms of dance. There are tons of ethnic dances that co-exist with the classical styles and newer styles. All have come to be loved and respected by dancers all over the world. SwingElegance embraces the belief that dance is a legacy of grace, discipline, beauty, and creativity. We use dance to celebrate life, creativity & community. Dance couples technique and precision with enthusiasm and passion.
